Hammurabi was the sixth Amorite king of the Old Babylonian Empire. During his reign, he conquered Elam and the city-states of Larsa, Eshnunna, and Mari, bringing almost all of Mesopotamia under Babylonian rule.
In just a few years, Hammurabi succeeded in uniting all of Mesopotamia under his rule. He then claimed the title "King of the Amorites".
Hammurabi is best known for having issued the Code of Hammurabi, and he is honored as a great lawgiver.
