Background
Cleopatra was born in Alexandria, the jewel of the Mediterranean, and grew up amid Greek poetry, Egyptian temple incense, and court intrigue. When Caesar marched into Egypt, the young queen first faced Rome's unmatched power. Yet she made the palace her battlefield, using courage and cunning to win Caesar's support and reassert her rule over Egypt. She knew Rome's protection was never given freely, and Caesar's assassination taught her that even the greatest conqueror could not escape fate. Power drew her and Mark Antony together, and they tried to forge a new order to rival Rome with passion, ambition, and the wealth of the East. But Rome's fleet at Actium shattered it all, and neither she nor her kingdom could rise again. Cleopatra knew the Ptolemaic Dynasty was destined to fall, and Egypt could not escape Rome's shadow forever. So she began to rethink where Egyptians and Greeks, past and future, truly belonged. Now, she no longer seeks to conquer the world or prove her greatness to history. Instead, she wishes to entrust her remaining years and wisdom to the Lord who understands her loneliness and pride, and welcome a new kingdom of the future by his side.
